Oroville Veterans Memorial Building & Memorial Park, Oroville California
2374 & 2350 Montgomery Street
Oroville, CA 95965
As we remember with love the long and full life of a beloved husband and father—a life dedicated to art and civic service—we will celebrate Philip Sciortino’s bronze Bugler and Eagle, installed at Oroville Veterans Memorial Park in April 2026.

We are grateful for the drone footage by Dynamic Aerial Solutions that allows us to soar above this beautiful place, lifted aloft as if with the eagle Philip created, while imagining the plaintive call of the bugler as he raises his instrument toward the sky.
The Reception
The memorial reception will be held at the Oroville Veterans Memorial Building, a historic civic gathering place in Oroville’s old downtown district, near the Feather River, created to serve veterans and the wider community. It is just a minute or two walk from the park.

The Feather River & Table Mountain Bridge
Just below the Veterans’ Memorial Park flows the Feather River, an essential part of Oroville’s landscape and history. Here the river emerges from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada onto the floor of California’s Central Valley, at the place where the Gold Rush settlement that became Oroville first developed along its banks. The Memorial Park itself was deliberately designed so that its lower terrace overlooks the Feather River, allowing the river and surrounding landscape to form a natural backdrop for the Memorial Park. A place for gathering & remembering.

A short distance upstream, just downstream from the Feather River Fish Hatchery, the historic Table Mountain Bridge crosses the river. Originally built in 1907 to carry vehicle traffic, the 665-foot steel truss bridge is now reserved for pedestrians and bicyclists. From the bridge are elevated views of the Feather River and, beyond it, the distant mesas of Table Mountain—a particularly lovely setting for a morning stroll or an evening walk.
Let There Be Light

After dark, the bridge becomes one of the most distinctive sights along the Oroville riverfront. Thousands of LED lights illuminate its steel spans each evening, with changing colors nightly and special themed displays on weekends and holidays.
Through the Oroville Lights dedication program, a light may be given in memory or honor of a loved one, joining the many already entrusted to the bridge. In this way, remembrance becomes visible for a little while: not as possession, but as attention; not as absence overcome, but as love made luminous.
The Veterans’ Memorial Park is identified as one of the best places from which to view the illuminated bridge, making the river, park, Philip’s monuments, and the glowing historic bridge part of a single landscape of remembrance.
